Silicone Molding Machine Stroke: A Case Study on a Large Beauty Mask Project
We recently received an inquiry from a new client regarding a silicone beauty mask product. Such facial masks have become quite popular in the market lately, and we’ve seen a noticeable increase in related inquiries and RFQs. While the specifics of each request vary, the general requirements are often similar, allowing us to provide a preliminary assessment and quotation. (Chicarubber)
The defining characteristic of this particular mask is its substantial size. It measures 550mm in length, 218mm in height, and has a depth of 156mm. Factoring in this depth, plus the required thickness of the mold steel, the total mold thickness is projected to reach approximately 220mm. Furthermore, the mold must open sufficiently after the curing cycle to allow for part removal. Consequently, the machine’s opening stroke must exceed 380mm, classifying this as an ultra-thick mold project.
To confirm our capabilities, we physically verified the platen stroke of our larger machine using a steel tape measure. We confirmed a stroke of exactly 380mm, which is fully capable of handling this project. Following this technical validation, we collaborated with our mold specialist to evaluate the mold construction costs and the piece-part price. A detailed quotation has since been compiled and sent to the client.
This project reminds us of our experience producing larger body wear components, which also required exceptionally thick molds. Such projects place high demands on the clamping stroke of the silicone molding machines. Our larger machines are equipped with these greater strokes, whereas our standard, smaller machines typically have strokes below 260mm. This limitation means only specially configured equipment can be considered for such sizable tooling. (Chicarubber)
Fortunately, we have a 350-ton silicone molding press that perfectly meets the process requirements for this beauty mask. Its robust clamping force and sufficient stroke make it an ideal fit for ensuring the successful production of this product.
