Using silicone material for joint compounds in drywall applications is a very good idea, but it needs some work. I tried to use this just recently on a drywall repair in my home, I found that the silicone walls were too flexible and kept bowing towards the middle making it very difficult to mix joint compound and to get my drywall knife in and out without the sides of the tray flexing too much. It is also not a good material for cleaning off joint compounds from your drywall knife. The edge is the same silicone material and not hard enough to scrape off the mud.
I will say it is very easy to clean joint compound out of this tray, you can let it dry and just squeeze and break out the dry compound very easily into a trashcan.
